1. Fill in the blank: "It took me ___ hour to finish the homework."
- A. a
- B. an
- C. much
- D. many
Answer: an
Use "an" before a vowel SOUND, not just a vowel letter. The "h" in "hour" is silent, so it starts with an "ow" sound: "an hour" (but "a house", where the h is spoken).
2. Fill in the blank: "Each of the students ___ a laptop."
- A. has
- B. have
- C. are having
- D. were having
Answer: has
The subject is "each", which is singular, so it takes a singular verb: "has". The plural word "students" is only part of the phrase "of the students" and does not control the verb.
3. Fill in the blank: "I ___ in Dhaka since 2015."
- A. live
- B. am living
- C. lived
- D. have lived
Answer: have lived
For an action that started in the past and continues now, with "since" or "for", English uses the present perfect: "I have lived here since 2015." ("I have been living" is also correct.) "I am living here since 2015" is a common mistake.
4. Fill in the blank: "The meeting is ___ Monday."
- A. in
- B. at
- C. on
- D. into
Answer: on
Use "on" with days and dates (on Monday, on 5 May), "in" with months and years (in May, in 2025), and "at" with clock times (at 3 pm).

5. Fill in the blank: "She ___ to the market yesterday."
- A. went
- B. go
- C. goes
- D. has gone
Answer: went
"Yesterday" is a finished past time, so we use the simple past: "went". The present perfect ("has gone") cannot be used with a finished time word like "yesterday" or "last week".
6. Fill in the blank: "I was born ___ 2005."
- A. on
- B. in
- C. at
- D. since
Answer: in
Years take "in": "in 2005". If you give the full date, switch to "on": "I was born on 12 March 2005."
7. Which sentence is correct?
- A. She gave me many advices.
- B. She gave me an advice.
- C. She gave me some advice.
- D. She gave me advices.
Answer: She gave me some advice.
"Advice" is uncountable in English, so it has no plural and cannot take "an". Say "some advice" or, for one item, "a piece of advice".
8. Fill in the blank: "If it rains tomorrow, we ___ at home."
- A. would stay
- B. stayed
- C. would have stayed
- D. will stay
Answer: will stay
This is a first conditional — a real possibility in the future. The pattern is "If + present simple, will + verb": "If it rains, we will stay at home."
9. Fill in the blank: "This road is ___ than the old one."
- A. more wide
- B. wider
- C. widest
- D. more wider
Answer: wider
Short adjectives of one syllable form the comparative with "-er": wide → wider. Never combine "more" with "-er" ("more wider"), and "widest" is the superlative, used with "the".
10. Choose the correct question tag: "You are coming to the party, ___?"
- A. isn't it
- B. don't you
- C. aren't you
- D. won't you
Answer: aren't you
A question tag repeats the sentence's own helping verb and subject, made negative: "You ARE ... , AREN'T YOU?" Using "isn't it" for every sentence is a common mistake.
